Fifth Annual

Greyhound Adoption Expo

First Veterinarian Seminar

On Line Registration

Veterinarians play a major role to help transition greyhounds from their professional lives as racers to their retired lives as couch potatoes.  This seminar offers an opportunity for veterinarians who treat pet greyhounds to communicate with both veterinarians who treat greyhounds while they are at the track and veterinarians who perform clinical research studies on greyhounds.

For the first time, we are offering a four hour seminar for veterinarians and vet techs only. This seminar will be held Saturday June 14th  starting at 9 Am at Raynham Greyhound Park in Raynham, MA. Veterinary professionals will be able to talk to each other and share ideas and experiences with all of their technical terminology. Cynthia Branigan, author of Adopting the Racing Greyhound, will emcee the procedings. We are honored to have both Dr. Brad Fenwick and Dr. Linda Blythe coming to the Expo. Dr. Fenwick presentation is entitled "Evidence-Based diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of infectious respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases in Greyhounds".  Dr. Blythe talk entitled "Greyhounds as Pets – Unique Veterinary Problems" will be discussing blood value differences, bleeding in greyhounds,  Anesthesia, and dangerous nsaids.

The remaining time will be devoted to a panel discussion/ question and answer session led by Dr. Alexandra Lightbown, veterinarian for the Racing Commission in Massachusetts. She will be joined by Dr. David Dunn of North Shore Veterinary Hospital, and other local practicioners who have been treating the racing greyhounds as they are at the track and on their way to adopters and adoption groups. Obviously, Dr. Fenwick and Dr. Blythe will also be participating in this exchange.  Additional topics added to the mix at this juncture include fracture repair and spaying and neutering retired racing greyhounds. Lunch will be served curtesy of Raynham Greyhound Park. This time can be used to socialize and continue the exchange of information among all of the professionals in attendance.

Registration for this event is free and every veterinarian who pre-registers for the session and attends the session will be given a copy of Dr. Blythe's book, Care of the Racing and Retired Greyhound.  The books are being provided by the American Greyhound Council and The Greyhound Project. Three Continuing Education Credits have been awarded by the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association.
